People of Hope!
I feel weird about Christmas this year. No, I don’t feel weird about the fact that God loved us at great cost to Himself when He sent Jesus to take on a human nature and be judged for our sin instead of us, I feel weird about not decorating for the cultural celebration. No lights, no tree, not even a jing-jingler or a ding-dingler. Cindy Lou Who would be very disappointed. Am I spiritually opposed to it? No. It may be that I’m simply burned out on the amount of work involved in something that brings me a very low level of cheer. I’ve always enjoyed watching the girls get excited but now that they’re both on the other side of the world….. I’m taking a break dog gone it! I also chuckled to myself when Hannah called and said to us, “You didn’t put up anything!!??” The answer was a very satisfying, “Nope!” Oh, the day may come again (after some psychotherapy) when decorations appear….. but for now, I’m satisfied with my cheery wife……and knowing what Jesus did for me – what a gift!
YOUNG ADULTS CHRISTMAS PARTY – Tuesday A Young Adults Christmas party will take place next Tuesday, December 18th from 7pm – 9pm (may go later). Expect some games, snacks and a fun mug exchange (white elephant style). Make sure to bring a wrapped mug for the exchange and don’t forget your party face! This will take place at the Musselwhite’s House (26404 218th Ave SE, Maple Valley, WA 98038). Contact Elliott with any questions;
CHRISTMAS PLAY – December 15th Come out on December 15th for one of the showings of our Christmas play this year…..Candy Cane Lane. There will be two shows; one at 2:00 pm and one at 7:00 pm. This will be a great time to encourage the cast and experience in a special way the impact of what God has done for the world through Jesus.
LADIES CHRISTMAS PARTY – December 20th Take some time to enjoy the company of some other ladies here at Hope. Bring a wrapped gift that costs no more than $15 and one of your favorite dishes to share for a meal together. December 20th at 6:00 pm. Childcare will be provided
CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICES We will have two services on Christmas Eve with real “light ‘em on fire” candles; one at 4:00 and one at 6:00 pm. There will be care for every child, nursery through 6th grade. A special children’s program in the kid’s wing will take place during the services that I believe will provide a lasting memory especially for those kids who have never or rarely been in church. These services are not only encouraging to believers, but I would highly encourage you to take the opportunity to invite someone who hasn’t started following Jesus yet, it’s one of two times each year that an unbeliever will most likely respond to an invitation from you.
See you soon!
